Just bought one - $60 from Lidl...., used it for the first time yesterday, customer with a damaged guitar. Beyond economic repair. and no, I can't just fill it with plastic wood. I don't do "that type" of repair. Sides, back, braces, linings all split and lots of stuff previously fixed with epoxy... OK, on topic, brightness control is pretty much essential, I find I have to adjust it all the time.
_________________ The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.
Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.
Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
